    Diffeomorphisms from higher dimensional W-algebras

Classical W-algebras in higher dimensions have been recently constructed. In this letter we show that there is a finitely generated subalgebra which is isomorphic to the algebra of local diffeomorphisms in D dimensions. Moreover, there is a tower of infinitely many fields transforming under this subalgebra as symmetric tensorial one-densities. We also unravel a structure isomorphic to the Schouten symmetric bracket, providing a natural generalization of w_\infty in higher dimensions.Comment: 10 page

Dissipative Dynamics of Highly Anisotropic Systems

In this paper we present a method to improve the description of 0+1 dimensional boost invariant dissipative dynamics in the presence of large momentum-space anisotropies. We do this by reorganizing the canonical hydrodynamic expansion of the distribution function around a momentum-space anisotropic ansatz rather than an isotropic equilibrium one. At leading order the result obtained is two coupled ordinary differential equations for the momentum-space anisotropy and typical momentum of the degrees of freedom. We show that this framework can reproduce both the ideal hydrodynamic and free streaming limits. Additionally, we demonstrate that when linearized the differential equations reduce to 2nd order Israel-Stewart viscous hydrodynamics. Finally, we make quantitative comparisons of the evolution of the pressure anisotropy within our approach and 2nd order viscous hydrodynamics in both the strong and weak coupling limits.Comment: 17 pages, 5 figures; Published versio

An analysis of the Lattice QCD spectra for Ds0∗(2317)D^*_{s0}(2317) and Ds1∗(2460)D^*_{s1}(2460)

In this talk I present the results obtained using effective field theories in a finite volume from a reanalysis of lattice data on the KD(∗)KD^{(*)} systems, where bound states of KDKD and KD∗KD^* are found and associated with the states Ds0∗(2317)D^*_{s0}(2317) and Ds1∗(2460)D^*_{s1}(2460), respectively. We confirm the presence of such states on the lattice data and determine the weight of the KDKD channel in the wave function of Ds0∗(2317)D^*_{s0}(2317) and that of KD∗KD^* in the wave function of Ds1∗(2460)D^*_{s1}(2460). Our results indicate a large meson-meson component in both cases.Comment: Conference Proceedings, Hadron 2017, Salamanca, Spai

Estimating the magnetic field strength from magnetograms

A properly calibrated longitudinal magnetograph is an instrument that measures circular polarization and gives an estimation of the magnetic flux density in each observed resolution element. This usually constitutes a lower bound of the field strength in the resolution element, given that it can be made arbitrarily large as long as it occupies a proportionally smaller area of the resolution element and/or becomes more transversal to the observer and still produce the same magnetic signal. Yet, we know that arbitrarily stronger fields are less likely --hG fields are more probable than kG fields, with fields above several kG virtually absent-- and we may even have partial information about its angular distribution. Based on a set of sensible considerations, we derive simple formulae based on a Bayesian analysis to give an improved estimation of the magnetic field strength for magnetographs.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures, accepted for publication in A&

People Fever, On the Popular Passions of Peter Watkins' La Commune (Paris 1871)

In this essay I argue that the term ‘people’ has aroused inventive passions in the militant image. I focus my analysis on La Commune (Paris, 1871) by Peter Watkins, a television film that has laid claim to a popular pedigree of sorts. This is a copious film that allows the analysis to approach and interrogate the popular passion of the image and some of its variants. I investigate two main aspects of this case. Firstly, I analyze Watkins’s conception of television as a public service, a conception close to the idea of third television, and its troubled practice in the making of La Commune (Paris, 1871) . Secondly, I focus on what I consider to be the most generative element of the film itself, its attempt to present a collective voice, a ‘voice of the people’. I argue, with the help of Félix Guattari’s critique and proposals for a democratic communication system, that the voices of the film are best listened to as part of a media struggle for collective enunciation
